Welcome to 2016 from everyone at Gregson Lane Cricket Club, What’s new? Well we’ve entered the Under 12 Palace Shield League this year and this will be a challenge to the players as we move towards playing a format of cricket that is different to what we have been used to. How? The game will still be a maximum of 20 overs per side, Bowlers bowling a maximum of 3 overs and no less than 8 bowlers in a side (no change here). Batters have to retire after they’ve scored 25 runs and they cannot return. The biggest change is that once you’re out,..you’re out, First ball or fiftieth ball. THIS WILL BE A MASSIVE CHALLENGE TO OUR PLAYERS. In particular the older players will need to take up some responsibilities of scoring runs and at the same time not getting out. Scoring: Teams start with a total of 0 runs (not 200 as we have done previously). In the second innings of the game once the opposition have taken 10 wickets or the runs have been scored it’s the end of the game. i.e. It is real cricket.I expect the change in format for us will give us a few highs and a few lows but our ethos at Gregson Lane of playing with a smile on our faces will still remain.
