Junior debuts for the district - Friday June 16th
Will C was approached at a cricket tournament in Sefton whilst representing Hutton Grammar to see if he would be willing to play for the South Ribble District U13 team against Burnley - Friday 16th June at New Longton. As this was Will's second day out of school (doing athletics and cricket) it only took him a fraction of a second to agree to a third day out of school. Will was down for 9th batter and did not get to bat but SR achieved 196 in their 40 overs. Will opened the bowling and took a wicket. He bowled 4 pacey overs. He fielded well and got the opportunity to bowl again in the 31st over and got their last wicket on his second ball. Stats 2 wickets for 20 runs. He has been asked to play again on Wednesday at Lancaster. Good luck Will. Update... Will bowled 6 overs took a wicket for 2 runs and a catch in the Lancaster match but did not get the chance to bat. He has been asked to play in the next match. More days off from school... terrible.
Another Junior debuts for the Second XI - May 6th
Josh K made an honest debut for the Gregson Lane second team. What was more he only had to partner the coach... proud moment for coach Si. Josh faced quite a few balls gaining in confidence and smacked a big shot in the air for 2 runs. Simon and Josh put on a good partnership with Josh supporting Simon's runs between the wicket ably.
Although he didn't get the opportunity to bowl what was impressive is that he always remembered to walk in on every bowl and backed up every fielder going for the ball and clapped and supported all the bowlers efforts. Well done Josh - here's to the first of many more.. |
Senior debuts for three juniors
30th April 2017 a special day for 3 of our juniors, Will E, Sam W and Will C. They made their debut for the Sunday Senior XI and how well they played. Will C opened the bowling and finished with figures of 7 overs, I maiden, 30 runs and 1 wicket (caught and bowled). He could have had more wickets but 2 catching opportunities were not taken. Sam was the first junior to take a wicket dismissing their opening bat. Sam's figures were 5 overs, 1 maiden, 21 runs and 1 wicket. William E at one stage was on a hat trick and had a catch dropped but finished with the exceptional figures of 4 overs, 1 maiden,4 runs and 2 wickets. All 3 also fielded really well including a great throw by Sam to Will C to catch and knock the bails off - OUT!!!!! Onto the batting. Will E was out to a smart stumping by the keeper. Will C crashed 4 boundaries in the sides top score of 22 runs and Sam hit 1 boundary in his score of 7. Great day for the 3 of them. I am sure they enjoyed it and 3 sets of proud parents were in attendance to provide excellent support. Cricket is like any other game so the more you play the better you get. They will all be better for this experience and the increased chances they will inevitably get during the season for the adult team. Hopefully they will play for many years to come. Report was written by a very pleased junior coach.! Photos - C Edgerley. |
