There was only ever going to be one captain for this game... Birthday Boy Sam W and as it happens 13 was unlucky for Walton le Dale and a fantastic number for Gregson Lane. The only thing that went against us today was the toss! The pitch was fresh after a torrential downpour so seeing through the first four overs was critical. William E did a great job before he got a pea roller - unlucky William. Benedict and Daniel both got bowled by cracking balls... no shame there guys! The innings was held together by Skipper Sam (25) and William C (20). William S and Isaac both finished with not outs.
73 was going to be a challenging total and we knew that Walton le Dale would come out of their blocks. We needed to hold our nerve and keep bowling at the stumps. Sam, who else, started the rot with a great direct hit at the stumps to run their guy out. Then came their come back. Hold steady lads! Their number 3 scored 25 out of the first 30 runs and then had to retire. The advantage was still with Walton le Dale. Enter William C. A more hostile, accurate spell of bowling you will rarely see with 4 wickets in 4 balls... Wow! 3 overs, 4 wickets, 3 maidens for 0 runs. Brill! But it wasn't just William C. Every bowler played their part. Golly Josh! Debutant - got two wickets and Harvey got the winning wicket and was promptly piled on by all the players. William E took a great catch. William S picked up his first wicket for 'The Lane' and Matthew would have done similar but for a ball hitting the stumps being called a no ball. Isaac and Daniel both bowled well giving nowt away. 'Gloveman' Benedict did a good job behind the sticks. Well done to you all - great performance that everyone enjoyed. Finally thanks to the background staff - the Wood's, Pete and Abbo. Thanks guys. A great birthday cake - thanks Jane - finished off a great evening. Sam S - we missed you. We hope you are better soon. |
