Sam S, skipper for the day called 'Heads' and promptly won the toss and elected to bat. Sam W, wearing his new helmet and boots scored his 11 runs with shots all around the ground. With an early wicket down in the second over enter ... Benedict. With England's number 3 Compton struggling against Sri Lanka, Benedict must start to come into the reckoning for selection. Benedict is batting exceedingly well and after a well crafted 15 he was unfortunate to be run out. Sam S hit a useful 4 before Isaac, promoted up the order adapted to the circumstance of the game and nudged and nurdled his way to 6 not out. Enter Lydia making her debut for 'The 'Lane' and she wins the best shot of the day with an excellent 4 through backwards square leg!
61 was going to be a tough target to defend. We needed early wickets but Tarleton batted well and it wasn't until our youngest player, Matthew, bowled that we managed to get a vital breakthrough with a run out. The batsman hit a good shot but William C gathered the ball cleanly, threw it into Woody who made excellent yards to make it to the stumps to gather the ball and whip the bails off. Wicket! No need for the third umpire... run out by a country mile! William C bowled with good pace and swing and was unlucky not to get more than one wicket. Daniel bowled with his usual guile and he would have bowled the batsman but for the fact it spun too much. Unlucky Daniel. The most pleasing performances with the ball today for the overs bowled were by William S, Matthew S and Amy. On reflection they bowled the best they've ever bowled. The practice is paying off. Tarleton got their target in 16 overs. Lots still to work on for the team but we are improving. Great support from parents and grandparents and thanks to Phil for scoring. |
How we can improve
.We need to think how we can improve our ground fielding - stopping a ball cleanly and returning it quickly to the keeper. We will all work on this at the next practice but have a go at home or at school.

What we must learn from this game
.It is unusual for us to bowl no balls but we need to keep the number of no balls down. Batters need to learn to settle into their batting early on defending their wicket and aim to build up confidence slowly and score runs.
