Definition of Cricket - Game between 22 players played in the summer with a bat and a ball!
Definition of summer - Warm / hot months of June, July and August! Hmmm. Well we played cricket but for the supporters wrapped in blankets, rugs and anything else they could find in the car it was hardly summer! We got a game in anyway after all the rain. Isaac - Skipper for the day lost the toss and we were invited to bat. A change in the batting line up gave Josh, Harvey and Lydia the chance to bat higher up the order than previous. The team scurried and scampered to 84 runs thanks to Sam W (9) and William C with a rapid 25 before he had to be retired. It was good to see that we exceeded the target of 80 runs. So, on to the bowling. The highlights of the match have to be the overs bowled by debutants Josie and Alex.Josie bowled a maiden over on her first ever over for 'the Lane' which is fantastic. Alex bowled his overs with great accuracy - brill! Both Josie and Alex slotted into the bowling attack like they had been playing for years. Sam W was back in the wickets with one wicket in each of his two overs. Josh was so tight with his line and length and justifiably picked up a wicket. Josh and I had a good laugh when he delivered a ball having 'slightly' stepped over the crease. I think he was nearer the batter than the umpire when he released the ball!! William E bowled 2 wickets in 2 balls and William C ran out one batter with a direct hit. The bowlers were carefully and wisely shuffled round by Isaac and ensured we strangled Tarleton out of the game. Harvey, Sam S, Lydia and the skipper Isaac all bowled very well. Woody had another great day behind the sticks with only 1 bye. A great team effort and a game played in the right spirit. Well done everyone. Thanks to Jane for scoring (even though the score book looks like a dogs dinner!) Bring back Phil! Thanks to Colin and Alistair for some great photos. |
How we can improve
To run between the wickets and call effectively to one another when and when not to run.

What we must learn from this game
Even if we don't as individuals bat or bowl well we can still contribute a lot to the game.

Magic moments!Josie's first over for the Lane was a maiden over - ie no run's given away.
Alex's second over was a really mature and well executed over.. |
