This team is just getting better and better. William E skipper for the night lost the toss and we were invited to have the first knock. We got off to a steady start by William E and Sam W against some very accurate bowling. William E and later Benedict were both undone by pea rollers. With the shine off the ball we needed an injection of quick runs. William C (19) and a career best of 16 by Sam S gave us the impetus. The batsmen towards the end of our overs unselfishly gave their wickets away in pursuit of quick runs. 71 was 9 runs below the target we set but we knew if we bowled to our potential the match would be in the bag. Early wickets were the key to putting the opposition on the back foot. Sam W's accuracy went unrewarded but the pressure of not giving any runs caught up with their batsmen and William C smashed wide open their batting line up with 2 wickets in 2 balls. Tight bowling from Benedict, Isaac, Josh and Lydia followed before 'the Lane's' answer to Shane Warne 'Daniel' came onto bowl. My previous match report commented about how well he bowled then but this was totally in a different class bowling 3 in one over, 2 with 'leggies' and 1 with an 'offy'. Daniel out-thinking the batsmen. His deliveries spun in a considerable way and I am talking about 8 - 10 inches ( the younger readers can make the calculation as to how much this is in metric.) With the heart of their batting line up ripped open enter Amy to take another wicket with a good catch taken by Benedict. Josh and Benedict finished with a caught and bowled apiece. Lydia bowled a good first over and Woody was once again outstanding with 0 byes for the second successive match. So at the end of the 20 overs they were still 15 runs short and 'the Lane' take over at the top of the league...but let's not get carried away as there is still a long way to go and a lot of cricket to be played. We are playing to our abilities and everyone is contributing to the team success. If you don't believe it just come and watch how everyone joins in the celebrations when someone takes a wicket. Thanks to the senior team for helping set up the ground ready for the match. Thanks to Phil for scoring and thanks to Colin for some great photos - the team appreciate them very much. |
How we can improveTake our catches - we dropped 3!

What we must learn from this game
.Still have to learn to go for those sneaky single runs. These can be game changers.

Magic moments!Daniel's 3 wickets in an over followed by the team singing 'Daniel's on Fire' to the tune of 'Will Grigs on fire'.
Sam W telling everyone to keep the ball off the ground so that it keeps the shine and then promptly throwing it along the floor!!! Sam and Simon had a good laugh! |
