The wait is over. The hard work has been put in and Amy has got her first wicket for the season. How great it was to see all the rest of the team congratulate Amy on this achievement. And what a day it was for her brother Daniel, our skipper for the day. He went in near the end of our innings when runs were needed to set a challenging target. He smashed a 4 and unselfishly got out trying to score more. Daniel and Amy both bowled the best I've seen them bowl. Daniel imparting great flight and bamboozling the batsmen by spinning the ball both ways. He could easily have taken more than 1 wicket.
It was a day for all the team to contribute. William E and William S batting for 13 overs and a partnership of 41. Benedict made up for his lack of runs in the previous game by smashing a quick-fire 14 not out including rapturous applause and comments from the senior first XI cricketers with his square drive. ( How does he play this shot? Please teach me because I would love to play it!) Josh bowled beautifully and Harvey in only his second match (obviously inspired by his watching family) bowled 2 overs of the highest standard. Harvey, where have you been? Your accuracy in bowling is fantastic particularly bearing in mind how few matches you have played. A total of 75 and two of our big guns William C and Sam didn't get a sniff of getting a decent knock in the field. Sam was his usual self - energising the team by his encouraging words. He executed a great run out with an accurate throw that was caught superbly by Woody - text book stuff. Incidentally, Woody had his best ever match behind the stumps. (No byes!) Keep it up. Let's not also forget Matthew who bowled at the end which is not an easy thing to do. It was a day for experimentation with the batting line up giving some of the players an opportunity to bat higher up. This is important so players keep motivated and develop their skills. You never know when we might want them to hit a four to win a game. Thanks to the senior team for helping out with the screens, Phil for scoring and the tremendous support from the family. Additionally, thank you to Colin E for some great action photos (see below). Another game on Tuesday for some of you. Keep the momentum going. |
How we can improve
If the ball isn't bouncing we have to learn to come down the wicket to meet the ball.
|
What we must learn from this game
.We have to look for those cheeky single runs and put the fielders under pressure.

Magic moments!Amy's first wicket - Yay!
Benedict's shot for 4 through square leg. Daniel's shot for 4. Magic. |
